Two “Must Have” Repair Utilities

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Lately I have been using a couple of new tools and I highly recommend them. Check out D7 for an all in one malware removal, cleanup and repair utility. Too much to mention, so check it out at https://sites.google.com/a/obxcompguy.com/foolish-it/d7 .
Another utility great for repairing windows after malware has messed it up is Windows Repair at Tweaking.com. As with D7, you have to see it to believe it. Get it and check it out at http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html.

Uninstall That Antivirus Software!

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Yes, sometimes you need to uninstall Antivirus software. Usually because it hasn’t worked and you have a virus anyway, or because the antivirus itself is preventing you from accessing the internet, or from doing omething else you should be able to do with your computer. This site I am passing on today is most definitely the ultimate list of uninstallers. It even includes uninstallers for things other than Antivirus software. Check it out at http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/ .

Partition Recovery Tool and File Recovery

Friday, November 26th, 2010

I came across this free Partition Recovery Tool. It appears to be exactly what you may need if your partition has been lost on your hard drive. I have a hard drive I want to try it out on. Check it out at http://findandmount.com/ .

If you need to just recover a file you deleted, maybe NTFSUndelete can find it and recover it for you. Get it free at http://ntfsundelete.com/ .

Another Malware Removal Tool

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I recently cleaned up an infection on a computer and I owe the success in part to this program called Hitman Pro. Hitman Pro calls itself  “True Cloud Computing Anti-malware” and I can say for certain that it definitely helped clean up the infected computer I was trying to clean. As with all antivirus/anti-spyware software, it may not catch all infections. But it is definitely another tool to use, and it doesn’t hurt to try the free version and see if it finds anything your current antivirus has missed. Check it out at http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro .

Keep A Set of Up-To-Date Apps

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Long delay between posts, thanks to the great weather we’ve been having in Central New York, but on with the show.  I have had some time to try out Ketarin, which you can get at http://ketarin.canneverbe.com/ . For what I use it for, it works great. I have selected some apps I frequently put on customers machines, and Ketarin makes sure I have the latest version, whenever I run it. As their website says “Keep your setup packages up-to-date…” . Check it out, it’s great, just as Ninite was on the web. Similar but different.

Speaking of Ninite, I found another useful site similar to Ninite.com at http://freenew.net/ . It’s very similar to Ninite, but I haven’t done an actual side-by-side comparison. Select the apps you want, and download & install them in one package. It’s called FreeApp and looks good.
